Ten years ago, a client of mine came to me for help with what was later diagnosed as ovarian cancer. As a naturopath, I advised her to change a number of things in her lifestyle and to immerse herself in the Sunrider program. She followed my advice to the tea — literally — with Calli and Fortune Delight as a daily part of her routine, and with all the other Sunrider foods. She jumped in with both feet and within a short period of time, her doctors could find no sign of cancer.
While we cannot say that the Sunrider foods “cure” anything, we can tell you that they support balance by nourishing and cleansing the body. And when the body is balanced it can cure itself. My client (Priscilla) continues to follow my original advice. She remains cancer-free after 10 years. She eats the Sunrider foods every day and she has maintained a lifestyle as free of toxins as possible. The original advice I gave her (and much more) has been included in my new book, The Pure Cure: A Complete Guide to Freeing your Life from Dangerous Toxins
. Priscilla was recently featured in a news brief highlighting her story and mentioning the Sunrider foods. You can watch the 2-minute video
I also have 2 CDs. One explains why
a person would want to change their lifestyle and to incorporate the Sunrider foods. It’s titled, The Wisdom to Change
. The other explains how
to make these changes with the Sunrider foods. It’s called, The Solution for Wellness
. Both can be downloaded
from my website.
One of the reasons the Sunrider foods are so helpful in balancing the body is that they follow the 5000-year-old philosophy of regeneration developed by the Chinese. The rest of this newsletter is devoted to explaining the ancient Philosophy and why it works.
The Ancient Chinese Philosophy of Regeneration
No matter what climate we live in or what our circumstances are, the body is always trying to balance itself. In order for the body to do that, it must “Eat the foods that nourish it and avoid the foods that harm it.” This nutritional approach, used successfully for over 5,000 years, is the heart of the Chinese “Philosophy of Regeneration.” It includes three basic principles:
1: The body heals itself with proper nutrition
2: The body is designed to obtain its nutrition from whole foods
3: Each individual must accept responsibility for his/her own health.
When you choose to adopt the Philosophy of Regeneration, you’ll nourish the entire body rather than just the parts that are weak or out of balance, because each system affects the others. And when the body is balanced, it cleanses naturally. There are three elements that Chinese regenerative philosophy is built upon: Nourish, Balance and Cleanse.
Proper nourishment is YIN; Cleansing is YANG; together they bring BALANCE (where all five major systems in the body work as a team). Following the Philosophy of Regeneration and the practice of Nourishing, Balancing and Cleansing on a regular/ongoing basis, anyone can return to balance and harmony. Let’s take a look at Why the Sunrider foods are the premier choice.
Hippocrates said: “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” In keeping with Chinese tradition and the Philosophy of Regeneration, daily maintenance of the body with proper nutrition is the key to preventing illness. The body is designed to obtain its nutrition from whole foods. Whole foods are those in their original nutritional configuration where the naturally-occurring “family” of nutrients (the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and enzymes) is still together as a team. In other words, the nutritional integrity is still intact. This is what is meant by a “whole food”.
Sunrider has taken this concept and developed modern processes to enable the manufacturing of “whole foods” in convenient, practical, highly concentrated forms. For example, the powdered NuPlus is a combination of many whole food herbs that are carefully prepared to preserve their nutritional integrity. The process is very precise with regard to temperature control and processing times to assure that the entire “family” of nutrients remain intact. This is a major difference between Sunrider foods and many other “health” foods. And, Sunrider uses no preservatives, additives, artificial colors, added sweeteners, animal by-products, fat or chemical isolates in its herbal nutritional products, nor does it do animal testing.
Sunrider products are based on the five elements (fire, earth, metal, water, and wood). The elements represent the five systems of the body: endocrine, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and immune. you nourish and cleanse the five systems, your body will maintain balance. It is the most harmonious way to achieve optimal health.
Regular foods, today, are depleted of nutrients. Some may be okay for bulk but only if we add Sunrider foods for optimal nourishment so the body can regenerate itself. In a toxic world like we live in today, it is more important than ever to feed t
he body the best nutritive foods possible.
Sunrider is also based on the philosophy of yin (nourish) and yang (cleanse). The five elements participate in the natural rule of yin and yang.
The five elements correspond to the five systems of the body:
1. Wood – Immune
2. Fire – Endocrine
3. Earth – Digestive
4. Metal – Respiratory
5. Water – Circulatory
The Philosophy of Regeneration promotes balance in the body through cleansing, nourishing and balancing the body’s major systems. Each of the five formulas listed below addresses one of the 5 elements and its corresponding system of the body.
Immune System – Alpha 20C
The Chinese yin-yang cycle begins as internal energy is gathered and brought to a focus. Martial artists refer to this phase of the cycle as concentrating, or focusing, the qi (chi). The name of this phase is Wood, referring metaphorically to suppleness, flexibility, or the ability to meet adversity without breaking. The body’s adversity is illness. The defense system-food-represents the element Wood. Food strengthens the body’s ability to meet illness without breaking. This is the property we call immunity.Signs of imbalance include: persistent infections, colds, flu, swollen glands, allergies, growths (like tumors, warts, and cysts), cancer, chronic fatigue, yeast, and cold sores
Endocrine System – Prime Again
In the second phase of the yin-yang cycle, the gathered energy is released, as when the archer, having aimed the arrow, now releases it. The name of this phase is Fire, referring metaphorically to the heated energy of action and activity. The systems that coordinate action and activity are the endocrine and nervous systems. The hormones of the two systems are the same, but the endocrine system releases them through the blood stream, while the nervous system releases them through the nerves. Endocrine system food (which is also, in a sense, a nervous-system food) represents the element Fire. It nourishes functions associated with activity, action, and performance. Signs of imbalance include: sore or weak muscles, premature grey, or hair loss, depression and/or mood swings, infertility, hypertension, PMS, weak sexual response, nervous emotional instability, menopausal problems, muscle and nerve problems such as MS, MD, Parkinson’s.
Digestive System – Assimilaid
The third phase of the yin-yang cycle begins when the energy of the second phase is spent. The third phase is a transition phase, where the body, having exhausted itself in the out-flowing of yang, now prepares for renewal through the inflowing of yin. This is the turning-point of the yin-yang cycle. It is called the element Earth. During the Earth part of the cycle exhaustion opens itself to the inflow of nourishment. In digestion, the body breaks down food, opening itself to some elements and closing itself to others. For this reason, the digestive system food is the food of the element Earth. The Chinese emphasize, however, that it refers not only to digestion of food, but to all the external influences and activities that an individual is required to assimilate or digest. Signs of imbalance include: stomach discomfort, diarrhea, slow digestion, constipation, vomiting, nausea, gas, indigestion, ulcers, bloating, hiatal hernia, Crohn’s Disease, colitis, and celiac disease.
Respiratory System – Conco
The fourth phase, which is called Metal, initiates the yin (inflow) part of the yin-yang cycle. In this phase, the body now absorbs the food it has digested-the environmental sources of life, which the Chinese call “external qi.” There are many aspects of external qi (including food and sunlight), but the Chinese represent them all with the powerful symbol of breath. Thus the food of the Metal phase is Respiratory-System Food, which feeds processes that connect us to the universal sources of life. Signs of imbalance include: tendency towards flu or colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus headaches, chronic congestion, and asthma.
Circulatory system – Lifestream
During the fifth phase, which is called Water, the external energies absorbed during the Metal phase become transformed into biological energies and dispersed throughout the body. This transforming and dispersing occurs largely through the circulatory system, which is why the food of the Water phase is the circulatory system food. These renewed biological energies are the very energies that are now focused and concentrated in Wood, thus beginning the cycle again. Signs of imbalance include: high or low blood pressure, heart problems, cold hands and feet, easy bruising, slow healing, high cholesterol, poor eye-sight, and varicose veins.
contains each of the above 5 formulas – a total of 48 concentrated herbs and extracts synergistically combined to feed each system of the body. Together they promote balance, synergy, harmony and communication among the 5 systems.
Although much of the Chinese five elements system appears to be symbolic, research has shown that the physiological processes affected by the foods are very much in line with their names. If you nourish and cleanse the five systems with the best whole food ingredients, your body will become balanced.
When used together, Sunrider products are designed to balance the body through regular gentle cleansing and quality nourishment. Calli and Fortune Delight beverages offer both cleansing and nourishment.
Calli Concentrated Herbal Beverage
is not just a tea but a whole food beverage based on an ancient Chinese formula for cleansing the body, nourishing the liver and kidneys, and enhancing mental alertness. The ingredients of Calli tea are formulated to help rid the body of unwanted fat and cholesterol, accumulated toxins, heavy metals, drinking water impurities, drug and chemotherapy residues, pesticides, preservatives, bacteria and free radicals. Below are the ingredients in Calli Tea and their healing benefits as outlined in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
- Camellia leaf (green tea) Camellia leaves contain polyphenols, which give the tea its antioxidant properties. Polyphenols stop free radical damage, neutralize enzymes essential for tumor growth, and de-activate cancer promoters. Green tea is clinically proven to protect against flu and cold viruses, and to speed recovery from viruses.
- Perilla leaf Perilla leaves contain flavones that have potent antioxidant activity and help prevent free radical damage to cells and DNA. Flavones also bind to heavy metals and help remove them from the body.
- Mori bark extract Mori (mulberry) bark extract is used to treat bronchitis, coughs, asthma, allergic rhinitis and edema. Also used to treat diabetes because it reduces absorption of sugar in the digestive tract.
- Alisma root extract Alisma root is used to treat kidney stones, pelvic infections, nephritis, and other urinary tract infections. It is also used to reduce abdominal bloating, and to treat diabetes.
- Imperate root Imperate root has antiviral, anti-bacterial, anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory properties.

ove blood circulation. It reduces the amount of dietary fat and cholesterol absorbed by the body. Jasmine also has sedative properties and is known for its aphrodisiac effect. Combined with green tea its offers powerful tonic and energizing effects.
- Lalang grass root extract Lalang grass root extract has antibiotic and fever-reducing properties. Used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to clear heat from the lung, stomach and urinary-bladder channels. Aids the respiratory system.
As you can see, Sunrider foods were designed to create a solid foundation for health using the ancient Philosophy of Regeneration and the principles of NOURISH, BALANCE & CLEANSE. In modern terms, we might use these maxims to describe the benefits of the Sunrider Program.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
“Good health is easier to maintain than regain.”
Stay with it! You’re on the right track with Sunrider!
